Pastor John L. Currie Jr.
Described as an influential staple to his community, John L. Currie serves as the senior and founding Pastor of Grateful Fellowship Community Church in DeSoto, TX. The Texas natives vision projected beyond the West Dallas housing projects he called home during his childhood. Growing up in a single parent home, the death of his father combined with peer pressure impacted some of the decisions he made while attending South Oak Cliff High School. After spending some time in a correctional facility, Pastor Currie completed his GED and continued his studies at the University of Houston.
Now Pastor Currie does more than position words in a sermon. His animated personality is a direct reflection of his effortless ability to preach stimulating; life-altering messages.
Helping people unleash the champion within them has become his life's mantra. The psychology major utlilizes his "P-Theory" to life...
"Starting from Poverty, Peer Pressure, and Prison...
Striving with Perseverance, Passionate...
And ending in PROSPERITY."
Pastor Currie, also an entrepreneur established a mobile detail car service in 1989, slightly a decade before beginning his ministry. In keeping in line with educating, encouraging, and motivating his members and surrounding neighborhoods, Pastor Currie has developed and maintained several devotional classes as well as community programs including, but not limited to the following:
- Locker Room for Men
- Powder Room for Women
- The VIP program ( Volunteers in Partnership with Prisoners)
- Youth programs ( Boys to Men, Daddy's Little Girl)
- Take it to the Bridge ( A program used to feed and clothe the homeless).
To refer to Pastor Currie simply as a man called to preach, would not be a fair assessment of the quality leadership he possesses to marvel his diverse congregation. His ability to effectively serve his flock, motivates him to maintain a humble demeanor, which has become his signature trademark. This in turn inspires them to actively get involved in being quality servants in the kingdom.
Currently in the process of enhancing his ministry outreach, Pastor Currie's church is in the process of constructing a 15,000 sq.ft. church and multi-purpose HOPE quadrangle, affectionately named the CITY OF HOPE. Designed to educate, aid those who are homeless as well as assisting individuals displaced by natural disasters, Pastor Currie is committed to making his God-given church of continuous Praise and Worship accessible to the masses.
